AI Generated Music on THE ZOO!?!

Posted by: Wildcard ZOO FREAK on 1/6/2026 3:26 PM

Kinda a first for radio. We are featuring a song that was completely generated with the latest AI tech.

Can you tell the difference? Do you like it? Feel violated? We know this is controversial, so please listen and weight in.

We will play the song all week at 10am / 5pm / 10pm CT.

Deja vue, anyone?
Not a bad track, but I spent the entire song saying to myself "I've heard that before. Who was that? Wait, that's not right!"

If I had not already known it was AI it would have drove me crazy.

Violated? No. It's not that much different than listening to your buddies try to play some Lynrd Skynrd in the backyard on July 4th. It may sound pretty good, but you know it ain't Lynrd Skynrd.

As far as playing on the zoo, for me, stay true to your existing rules. "If it rocks, play it. If not, bury it in the backyard."

NO AI please! We want the real deal here. There's plenty of real music out there!

It's a decent song, nothing special. I'd rather hear real music, though. I want to hear bands I can go see live (or could have at some point). There must be a lot of young, hungry musicians out there. I'd rather hear them.

My take is simple: we need to know what AI-generated music sounds like and be able to spot it the moment we hear it. Do I personally like it? No. Will we play it regularly on The Zoo? Absolutely not. But The Zoo has always been about pushing musical boundaries and exploring new frontiers, and AI is now part of that landscape whether we like it or not.

I’d rather openly identify it when it’s played than let anyone be deceived.

Songwriters can absolutely use AI as a helpful tool to break through creative blocks and spark ideas, and that’s valuable. But for me, the real failure comes when the music can’t be performed live by human musicians—because that’s where the heart, energy, and authentic connection happen. That’s the line where AI falls short, at least in my book.

This will be an interesting experiment. I'm going to listen, but I'm not excited about AI-generated music. It could be a tool for a musician to use, but if there's no human involvement, what's the point? I've heard some AI renditions of songs where it would re-do a song in a different style. The ones where it re-does rock songs as 70s soul were pretty funny, but I wouldn't pay a dime for any AI music.

Wildcard, I understand your take on the whole AI issue but for me, I donate to help pay royalties to real people not some bot.
Not a fan so, please stop.

Ok, so I listened, and it would pass the sniff test if I had The Zoo on in the background while I was working and not engaged in listening, but a lot of the fun of music is getting to know the bands and what inspired the songs. I'd be disappointed and not interested in the AI songs. I'm voting "No." I like the deep dive into rock music that The Zoo gives me, and I don't want need to have my BS filter always engaged when I'm checking out new music..

Playing AI seems to defeat the whole purpose of the ZEW. That's the whole reason I subscribed in the first place! I've been a card-carrying, certified ZOO FREAK since 1973. This is not why I signed up.

What's next, computer generated, auto-tune, souless baloney? I can hear that crap any day on commercial broadcasts.

I want to listen to and appreciate real music, written & performed by real (human) musicians, ya?

Sorry, I just can’t quite get into the whole AI thing. I understand the curiosity around it, but part of me sees this like AI acting just a way of edging out actors or musicians - yet I wonder if that isn’t the point for media conglomerates. Still, I can’t help but ask whether AI-generated music or acting might simply be another art form taking shape, even if I’m not fully there yet.

Okay, the experiment is over and AI was kicked down the stairs! Never to be heard on the zoo again!

Interesting enough, all the major labels recently dropped their lawsuits against the major AI generators and decided to partner with them instead! Terms not disclosed. Assimilation into the music mafia has begun!

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Rock on!

I didn't get to listen to it (whatever the hell it was), but it seems a foregone conclusion after reading some of the preceding comments - I didn't miss anything life-changing.

Just keep the programming up to the quality and quantity you've thus far achieved - it really FEELS like the ZOO the way it was at the height of its popularity!

Guess I'm a day late n dollar short...no matter though ~ I heard it play a couple of tymes here, and had I not been paying attention and known that it was ai, I would have thought it interesting enough to run over to the computer to see who the artist was that I wasn't familiar with. As opposed to the whole ai bum rush, I appreciate the fact The ZOO was willing to give it a spin and let us hear it ~ there are really no comments here that I could totally disagree with, but I don't see the point of going that rout ~ obviously the decision makers at said Major Labels see that there is likely a market for it and THERE IS MONEY TO BE MADE ~ But Not Here ~ If I find myself having to decide if something is actually real or fake, I'll just turn it off and play my albums and cds - I contribute because I love the openness and humor that is played here at The ZOO...so much good and Great music out there, there is no reason to have ai created songs for our listening enjoyment. BILL MILES n PYSCHOBILLY said it best ~ Thanx!!

PS: Asphalt Ballet debut album "Asphalt Ballet" n Alligator Stew "Alligator Stew" both have several quality ZOO ready tracks to be heard "Blood Money" being one

Have a Great 2026 My ZOO FREAKS ~ Rock On!!
