The Zoo Crew is spinning the infectious Say Hello by April Wine from their 1979 album Harder.....Faster, a track that’s got the Zoo Freaks grooving. This song, a standout on the album, was a major hit, staying on Toronto’s CHUM top 40 chart for an impressive 27 weeks, a testament to its catchy hooks and raw energy. One fan on Reddit raved about rediscovering Harder.....Faster, calling Say Hello “seriously underrated” and a nostalgic gem that brought back childhood memories. Another post on X from 2023 by user @pulmyears praised the song’s Zeppelin-esque backbeat, lovely harmonies, and tasty guitar parts, noting it as one of April Wine’s most well-arranged originals. The song’s lyrics, with lines like “I won’t go livin’ in the past / But I believe that love can last,” resonate with a timeless optimism, making it a perfect fit for the Zoo Crew’s hippie vibe.
April Wine formed in 1969 in Waverley, Nova Scotia, before relocating to Montreal a year later, where they began carving out their place in Canada’s rock scene. Led by the late singer-guitarist-songwriter Myles Goodwyn, the band’s early days were marked by a bluesy sound that evolved into the hard rock and pop-infused style heard on Harder.....Faster. Their first taste of success came with their 1972 album On Record, which spawned two top 40 hits in Canada: a cover of Elton John’s Bad Side of the Moon and Hot Chocolate’s You Could Have Been a Lady. These early covers helped the band gain traction, but it was Goodwyn’s original songwriting that propelled them to multi-platinum status in the late ’70s and early ’80s with albums like First Glance and The Nature of the Beast. Despite never winning a Juno Award despite 11 nominations, April Wine was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 2010, cementing their legacy as one of Canada’s most beloved rock acts.
Fans can stay connected with April Wine through their official website and social media on Facebook, Instagram, and X. The band’s enduring fanbase, much like the Zoo Freaks, keeps the spirit alive on platforms like the April Wine Fan Club on Facebook, where devotees share memories, rare photos, and updates about the band. Another fan hub, Music Legends Online, offers detailed discographies and chart histories for diehard fans. Though Myles Goodwyn passed away in 2023, April Wine continues to rock on with new vocalist Marc Parent, ensuring the Zoo Crew and their Freaks can keep spinning classics like Say Hello for years to come.
