Hey there, Zoo Freaks, your hippie DJs at THE ZOO are cranking up the vibes with "Naughty Naughty" by Danger Danger from their self-titled debut album! This glam metal anthem from 1989 is a total banger, and we’ve got some juicy trivia to share. Did you know "Naughty Naughty" was one of two big hits from the album, alongside "Bang Bang", and it landed a spot on MTV’s Headbangers Ball? The song’s infectious energy made it a staple for rock fans, and it even got a festive twist with "Naughty Naughty Christmas", featured in The Santa Clause 2 starring Tim Allen in 2002. According to Limelight Magazine “

Another cool tidbit comes from the song’s creation process. Written by bassist Bruno Ravel and drummer Steve West, "Naughty Naughty" captures the band’s knack for crafting melodic hooks that stick with you. The album itself had a bit of a guitar shuffle—Tony “Bruno” Rey played on nine tracks, including this one, while Andy Timmons stepped in for just two. Rey, now the musical director for Enrique Iglesias, laid down those iconic riffs that make the song pop. Fans on Danger Danger’s Facebook still rave about how this track defined their late ’80s party scene, with one fan group, Danger Danger Fans, sharing throwback stories of blasting it at high school dances.

Let’s dive into how Danger Danger got their start. Formed in Queens, New York, in 1986, the band emerged from the ashes of another group called Hotshot. Bassist Bruno Ravel and drummer Steve West, both ex-Hotshot members, teamed up with lead vocalist Mike Pont and guitarist Al Pitrelli, who later joined Savatage and Megadeth. Keyboardist Kasey Smith rounded out the early lineup. After a few demo attempts, they caught the attention of Epic Records, scoring a deal that led to their debut album. Ted Poley replaced Pont before the recording, bringing the charismatic vocals that define "Naughty Naughty". The band’s glam metal style and high-energy performances quickly won over fans, setting them up to tour with heavyweights like KISS and Alice Cooper.
