Knee Deep in You

Electric Boys

Hey there, Zoo Freaks! The Zoo Crew is spinning the funky, hard-rocking vibes of Knee Deep in You by Electric Boys from their 1992 album Groovus Maximus. This track is a horn-accented, groove-heavy banger that perfectly captures the band’s signature funk-metal swagger. According to a 2017 Rockbladet article, Knee Deep in You has been a staple of the band’s live performances, rarely missing a setlist since its release, except during special anniversary shows for their debut album. The song’s infectious rhythm and bold energy make it a fan favorite, with frontman Conny Bloom often using its driving beat to fuel extended, improvisational jam sessions live. In a 2023 interview with The Rockpit, Bloom shared that the band’s time at Abbey Road Studios, where Groovus Maximus was recorded, was filled with creative freedom, and tracks like Knee Deep in You were born from late-night jams fueled by the studio’s legendary vibe.

Another cool tidbit comes from the band’s Facebook posts around their 25th anniversary celebration of Groovus Maximus in 2017. They shared behind-the-scenes stories about how the song’s bluesy, funky groove was inspired by their love for bands like Mother’s Finest and Undisputed Truth, blending those influences with their hard rock roots. Fans on the Electric Boys Fan Group have also noted how the song’s playful lyrics and gritty riffs capture the band’s rebellious, fun-loving spirit, with some calling it their “ultimate party anthem.” The track’s raw energy and danceable beat make it a perfect fit for the Zoo Crew’s eclectic playlist, keeping the Zoo Freaks grooving.

Electric Boys kicked off their journey in Sweden in 1987, founded by Conny Bloom (vocals/guitar) and Andy Christell (bass). Starting as a duo, they quickly made waves with their single All Lips ‘n’ Hips, which dropped in 1987 and landed on the soundtrack for the American movie Feds. As noted on their Wikipedia page, the band expanded with guitarist Franco Santunione and drummer Niclas Sigevall, signing with Polygram and releasing their debut album, Funk-O-Metal Carpet Ride, in 1989. This album blended funky grooves, 70s-inspired rock, and psychedelic vibes, earning them a cult following in Europe and support slots with bands like Thunder in the UK. Their unique sound, influenced by Aerosmith, The Beatles, and funk-soul acts, set them apart in the late ‘80s rock scene, paving the way for the bold experimentation of Groovus Maximus.

Despite lineup changes and a breakup in 1994, the original quartet reunited in 2009, as shared in posts on their Instagram. They’ve since released several albums, including 2023’s Grand Explosivos, and continue to tour, bringing their funky rock to new and old fans alike. You can keep up with their latest gigs and releases on their official website, electricboys.com, or follow them on social media: Facebook, Instagram, and X.
