Hollywood Tease

Girl

The song "Hollywood Tease" from Girl's 1980 debut album "Sheer Greed" was a standout track, reaching No. 50 on the UK Singles Chart as the album's lead single. Described as "frantic and sleazy" in a retrospective post on the New Wave of British Heavy Metal blog, it captured the band’s glam rock edge with its gritty riffs and provocative lyrics. Fans on X have shared clips of the song’s music video, uploaded on YouTube, praising its raw energy and the band’s bold style, which stood out during the early '80s UK hard rock scene. Notably, the track was later covered by L.A. Guns, featuring Girl’s own Phil Lewis, adding to its lasting legacy in glam metal circles.

Girl was formed in 1979 in London by vocalist Phil Lewis, guitarists Phil Collen and Gerry Laffy, drummer Jonathon Trevisick (later replaced by Dave Gaynor), and bassist Mark MeGary (soon replaced by Simon Laffy). As noted in a 2 Loud 2 Old Music review, the band came together during the new wave of British heavy metal, blending glam rock flair with hard rock grit. Their early gigs in London clubs and a deal with Jet Records led to the release of "Sheer Greed," which peaked at No. 33 on the UK Albums Chart, fueled by their unique sound and the era’s appetite for hard rock.

While Girl no longer maintains active official social media, fans can explore their legacy through the Facebook page dedicated to their music and history. The band’s story and discography are also detailed on fan sites like Metal Music Archives, where enthusiasts share reviews and trivia. Additionally, the Girl (UK Band) Fan Group on Facebook is a hub for Zoo Freaks and other fans to discuss the band’s influence, share rare photos, and celebrate tracks like "Hollywood Tease."
