The song "Hot Stuff" by Glam Skanks from their album Don't Waste It is a high-energy glam rock anthem that captures the band’s bold and unapologetic style. In a 2019 interview with The Morning Call, guitarist Veronica Witkin shared that the track reflects the band’s determination to persevere despite personal and professional challenges. She described "Hot Stuff" as a rallying cry against giving up, inspired by moments when she considered quitting but was urged to keep going because of the band’s unique voice. The song’s raw, rebellious energy draws from their '70s influences like David Bowie and The Runaways, blending glittery aesthetics with punk attitude. Fans on Glam Skanks’ Facebook page have praised the track’s infectious riffs and empowering lyrics, with one post from 2019 calling it “the perfect soundtrack for kicking ass and taking names.” The band’s performance of "Hot Stuff" during their tours with Adam Ant electrified audiences, cementing its status as a fan favorite among Zoo Freaks tuning into THE ZOO.
Glam Skanks formed in Los Angeles in 2013, born from a serendipitous Craigslist ad. Guitarist Veronica Witkin, fresh from leaving another project, posted an ad seeking bandmates, while singer Ali Cat simultaneously advertised for a band. Their connection sparked the formation of the group, which initially included Veronica on guitar, Ali Cat on vocals, Millie on bass, and Jaxine Sparkles, the band’s only male member who performed in drag, on drums. In a 2016 Louder Than War interview, Veronica recounted how the band’s name came from a friend’s playful suggestion involving glitter-covered lamb shanks, evolving into “Glam Skanks” after brainstorming rhyming words. Their early gigs at iconic LA venues like The Viper Room helped them hone their theatrical, '70s-inspired sound, blending glam rock, punk, and pop. The band’s big break came when they were chosen to open for Adam Ant’s 2017 U.S. tour, exposing them to a wider audience and leading to multiple tours with the new wave legend.
The band’s lineup has seen changes over the years, notably with Ali Cat’s departure in 2018, as announced on Facebook. Vanessa Von Lust stepped in as the new vocalist, bringing fresh energy to the group. Their music, including albums like Glitter City and Anything In Between, reflects their ethos of embracing individuality and defying norms, resonating with fans who identify with their outsider spirit. Glam Skanks’ official website offers updates on their latest projects, while their Instagram and X accounts showcase their vibrant performances and glitter-soaked aesthetic. Fans can connect on the Glam Skanks Facebook page, where a community of supporters shares concert photos and memorabilia. Additionally, fan-driven groups like the Glam Skanks Fan Club on Facebook provide a space for Zoo Freaks and others to discuss the band’s music and upcoming shows, fostering a tight-knit community around their electrifying sound.
