Keep Between the Lines

Jive Mother Mary

The Zoo Crew, those laid-back hippie DJs at THE ZOO radio station, are spinning "Keep Between the Lines" by Jive Mother Mary from their album Keep Between the Lines for all the Zoo Freaks tuning in. This track, a gritty slice of Southern rock, pulses with driving riffs and a soulful edge, capturing the band’s knack for blending classic influences with a modern kick. While direct interviews about the song are scarce, a post on Facebook from the band hints at its inspiration, suggesting "Keep Between the Lines" came from late-night road trips, with lyrics reflecting the push to stay steady amid life’s chaos—perfect for the Zoo Crew’s free-spirited vibe. The album, self-released in 2010, marked a bold step for the group, showcasing their raw energy and tight musicianship.

Fan buzz adds more flavor to the track’s story. On X, a listener praised "Keep Between the Lines" as a standout, calling it “a Southern rock banger that sticks with you,” with its catchy groove and relatable feel earning love across posts. In a rare chat shared via Instagram, guitarist Mason Keck mentioned the band recorded the album in bursts at a friend’s studio in North Carolina, aiming to capture the live, unpolished sound they’re known for. Fans on Jive Mother Mary Fan Club have noted the song’s road-ready vibe, with one post imagining it blaring from a car stereo on a dusty highway, a sentiment that’s got Zoo Freaks nodding along.

Jive Mother Mary, a Southern rock outfit, got their start in Burlington, North Carolina, in 2006, founded by guitarist Mason Keck and drummer Seth Aldridge. The duo, childhood friends with a love for Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, and Black Sabbath, began jamming in a garage, crafting a sound that fused classic rock grit with a fresh, soulful twist. Bassist Tyler Schulz and vocalist Cody Purcell joined later, rounding out the lineup and fueling their early gigs at local bars and festivals. Their debut EP in 2008 caught attention, leading to the full-length Keep Between the Lines in 2010, a record that put their homegrown “NC Soul ‘n Roll” on the map.

Over the years, Jive Mother Mary has toured relentlessly, bringing their high-energy shows to clubs and stages across the South and beyond.
