Wall of Confusion

King Zebra

The Zoo Crew, those groovy hippie DJs at THE ZOO radio station, are spinning the hard-hitting track "Wall of Confusion" by King Zebra from their album Survivors, igniting the airwaves for their devoted Zoo Freaks. This song, featuring the electrifying vocals of Guernica Mancini from Thundermother, is a standout for its raw energy and powerful message. In a 2021 interview with Rockposer, the band described the track as a "sizzling hard rock" anthem aimed at shattering the barriers of misinformation, with lyrics like "No one believes you" reflecting a call to tear down societal mistrust. The collaboration with Mancini came about organically during the band’s recording sessions in Gothenburg, Sweden, where her dynamic voice elevated the song to what reviewers called a "granate" or explosive force, as noted in a Stormbringer review.

Trivia about "Wall of Confusion" reveals its deep roots in the band’s pandemic-era experiences. Recorded in 2020 at Crehate Studios with producer Oscar Nilsson, the song was born during a time of global uncertainty, which the band channeled into its aggressive riffs and defiant tone. A post on King Zebra’s Instagram in May 2021 shared behind-the-scenes footage of the music video shoot, showing the band rocking out in a gritty industrial setting, with Mancini’s fiery presence stealing the scene. Fans on the King Zebra Facebook page raved about the track’s sleaze-rock vibe, with one commenter calling it "the medicine we need for these confusing times." The song’s release was celebrated with a music video premiere on Rock’N’Growl, which highlighted its high-octane energy and the band’s chemistry with Mancini, making it a fan favorite at live shows like Rock The Ring.

King Zebra began their journey in Zurich, Switzerland, in 2012, founded by lead vocalist Eric St. Michaels, formerly of the band China, alongside guitarist Roman Lauer, rhythm guitarist Jerry Napitupulu, bassist Manu Judge, and drummer Benjamin Grimm. According to their bio on Bandcamp, the band started as a group of musicians passionate about 80s-inspired hard rock, drawing influences from bands like Whitesnake and Motley Crüe. Their early days were marked by relentless gigging, with their first single, "Bad Idea," dropping in 2017. This led to a string of singles like "Firewalker" and "Like A Hurricane," which built their reputation, with "Firewalker" amassing over 1.3 million streams, as noted on Hairband Heaven. By 2019, their self-titled EP solidified their place in the hard rock scene, and their signing with Crusader Records in 2021 propelled them to new heights with the release of Survivors.

The band’s rise was fueled by their electrifying live performances, opening for legends like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Uriah Heep, and Rose Tattoo, as detailed on their official website. Their tours through Eastern Europe and sold-out shows in Switzerland showcased their ability to connect with fans, who call themselves "Zebras" on platforms like King Zebra’s unofficial Facebook fan group. The group’s social media presence is vibrant, with regular updates on X, where they engage with fans about upcoming shows and new music. Fan websites like Rock Castle Franken have praised their sleaze-glam sound, and the Facebook community is a hub for fans sharing concert photos and discussing tracks like "Wall of Confusion." King Zebra continues to rock the scene, with their infectious energy and throwback style keeping the Zoo Freaks headbanging.
