Hey there, Zoo Freaks, your favorite hippie DJs at THE ZOO are spinning a killer track for you tonight: Waiting For You by Nick Perri & The Underground Thieves from their 2023 album TERRA FIRMA. This song’s got that gritty, soulful rock vibe that makes you wanna crank it up and lose yourself in the groove. Did you know the music video for Waiting For You was released on March 8, 2023, and it’s a total visual trip? Shot in crisp 4K, it’s streaming on their YouTube channel, and the band shared on Facebook that it’s a celebration of their Philly roots, with scenes capturing the raw energy of their hometown. Nick Perri himself posted on Instagram, saying the song’s about chasing dreams and holding onto hope, no matter how rough the road gets. Pretty deep stuff for a track that rocks so hard!
Another cool tidbit: TERRA FIRMA, which dropped June 16, 2023, was recorded across multiple spots, including Retro City Studios in Philadelphia and a house in the Pocono Mountains. Nick Perri, the band’s frontman, produced the album and played everything from vocals to electric guitars to tape loops—talk about a one-man rock machine! He shared in a Philadelphia Globe interview that the album’s a reflection of his life’s journey, and Waiting For You sets the tone with its anthemic, fist-pumping energy. Fans on Facebook have been raving about it, with one Bandsintown reviewer calling it the perfect opener for their live shows, where Nick’s guitar solos light up the stage.
So, how did Nick Perri get his start? This Philly native, born May 15, 1984, was destined for music. Growing up in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, with his sister, singer-songwriter Christina Perri, he was surrounded by creativity. By 16, he co-founded the blues-rock band Silvertide, which dropped their debut EP American Excess in 2002 and their album Show and Tell in 2004. Signed as a teen, Nick told American Songwriter it was like “joining the circus”—one minute he was in a tie at an all-boys school, the next he was touring Japan! Silvertide hit the road with giants like Van Halen and Velvet Revolver, giving Nick a crash course in rock stardom. After Silvertide split in 2006, he played with legends like Perry Farrell and Matt Sorum, and even contributed to the Lady in the Water soundtrack. His journey led to forming Nick Perri & The Underground Thieves in 2018, where he’s finally calling the shots as frontman, songwriter, and producer.
