Mystery Girl

Red Voodoo

The Zoo Crew, those groovy hippie DJs at THE ZOO radio station, are spinning the infectious track "Mystery Girl" by Red Voodoo from their album Bring It Back, much to the delight of their devoted Zoo Freaks. This song, with its sultry riffs and enigmatic vibe, has sparked some buzz. In a 2023 interview with Rock Insider, lead singer Dino McCord shared that "Mystery Girl" was inspired by a fleeting encounter at a dive bar in Sacramento, where a captivating stranger left the band intrigued but without answers. The lyrics, he noted, aim to capture that elusive allure, blending retro rock swagger with a modern edge. On Red Voodoo’s Instagram, a behind-the-scenes post from the recording sessions revealed that the iconic guitar solo was improvised in one take by guitarist Davin Loiler, a moment the band called "pure magic." Fans on the Red Voodoo Fan Club Facebook group have speculated about the song’s muse, with some jokingly claiming it’s about a local urban legend, though the band has kept the mystery alive.

Red Voodoo got their start in Sacramento, California, in 2018, when high school friends Dino McCord (vocals), Davin Loiler (guitar), Andrew Edwards (bass), and Nick Pesely (drums) began jamming in a garage, fueled by a shared love for classic rock icons like Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith. According to their bio on their official website, the band’s name was inspired by a late-night brainstorming session and a nod to their "bewitching" sound. They honed their craft playing local gigs at dive bars and festivals, building a grassroots following. A pivotal moment came in 2019 when they won a regional battle of the bands, earning studio time to record their debut EP. By 2021, their self-titled album caught the attention of rock radio stations, and their relentless touring solidified their reputation as a high-energy live act. Their X account often shares throwback photos of those early days, showcasing their journey from scrappy teens to polished performers.

For fans wanting to dive deeper, Red Voodoo’s official website offers tour dates, merch, and a newsletter for updates. You can follow their latest posts on Facebook, where they share live performance clips, or Instagram for studio snippets and tour life glimpses. Their X account is a mix of fan interactions and music teasers. The Red Voodoo Fan Club on Facebook is a lively hub where Zoo Freaks and other devotees swap concert stories and trade rare vinyl. Another fan-driven site, Red Voodoo Vibes, features fan art and show reviews, keeping the community tight-knit. Whether you’re grooving to "Mystery Girl" or chasing the band’s next gig, these platforms keep the Red Voodoo spirit alive.
