When The Heartache Has Gone

Revolution Saints

Zoo Freaks, get ready to vibe with the Zoo Crew as they spin "When The Heartache Has Gone" by Revolution Saints from their album Rise! This track, the lead single from their third album released on January 24, 2020, is a melodic rock anthem that channels the spirit of '80s and '90s arena rock. According to a post on X from November 4, 2019, the band teased this song as a "brand new" treat for fans, shared via Frontiers Music, their label. The song's soaring melodies and uplifting vocals, led by Deen Castronovo, were crafted to thrill their dedicated fanbase, affectionately called "Rev Saints." In a 2019 interview with Sonic Perspectives, the band highlighted how the track captures their signature heart and soul, with Castronovo’s vocals taking center stage, a dream realized for Frontiers’ president Serafino Perugino, who envisioned him as the lead singer.

Diving deeper into the song’s creation, "When The Heartache Has Gone" was a collaborative effort. Songwriting credits go to Alessandro Del Vecchio, Doug Aldrich, and Jack Blades, with contributions from Dan Rossall of the UK band Passion, as noted on Happy Metal Geek. The track’s music video, released on December 20, 2019, and shared on YouTube, showcases the band’s electrifying energy, with Castronovo’s dual role as drummer and vocalist stealing the show. Fans on Facebook raved about the song’s Journey-like vibe, a nod to Castronovo’s past with the band, as mentioned in a Rockpit review. The song’s release was a bold statement, with Eddie Trunk sharing its debut, cementing its place as a melodic rock staple.

Revolution Saints came to life in 2014 as a supergroup masterminded by Serafino Perugino of Frontiers Records. The trio—Deen Castronovo (ex-Journey, Bad English), Doug Aldrich (ex-Whitesnake, Dio), and Jack Blades (Night Ranger, Damn Yankees)—brought decades of rock pedigree to the project. Perugino, a longtime Journey fan, wanted to spotlight Castronovo’s vocal talents, as detailed on Wikipedia. Their self-titled debut album dropped in 2015, followed by Light in the Dark in 2017, which hit #8 on Dr. Music’s "Album of the Year" list. With Alessandro Del Vecchio handling production and keyboards, the band carved out a niche in melodic hard rock. Despite lineup changes in 2022, with Blades and Aldrich leaving and Joel Hoekstra and Jeff Pilson joining, the band’s early work, including Rise, remains a fan favorite, as seen in posts on Instagram.
