Every Door Is Open

RTZ

Little specific trivia exists about "Every Door Is Open" by RTZ from their 1991 album Return to Zero, as the song didn’t garner as much attention as singles like "Face the Music" or "Until Your Love Comes Back Around." However, the track’s introspective lyrics, penned by Brad Delp and Barry Goudreau, reflect the band’s knack for blending emotional depth with melodic rock. In a 2013 interview with MelodicRock.com, Goudreau shared that many songs on the album, including "Every Door Is Open," were born from late-night jam sessions where Delp would improvise melodies over chord progressions, capturing a raw, heartfelt vibe. The song’s theme of searching for truth amidst personal pain resonated with fans of the AOR genre, and its lush production by Chris Lord-Alge gave it a polished yet soulful edge. On a Facebook post from 2015, the official RTZ page noted that fans at live shows often requested "Every Door Is Open" for its soaring chorus, though it was rarely played due to the band’s focus on bigger hits.

RTZ formed in 1989 when Brad Delp, on hiatus from Boston, reconnected with former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau. Both had been part of Boston’s original lineup, with Delp’s unmistakable voice and Goudreau’s melodic guitar riffs shaping the band’s iconic sound. After Goudreau left Boston, he released a solo album in 1980 and formed Orion the Hunter in 1984, but he and Delp stayed in touch. During Delp’s break from Boston, he sought to write new material, leading to jam sessions with Goudreau. They recruited keyboardist Brian Maes, drummer Dave Stefanelli, and bassist Tim Archibald, forming RTZ. The band landed a deal with Giant Records, releasing Return to Zero in 1991, which blended Boston’s arena-rock roots with a slicker AOR style. Despite modest success, Delp returned to Boston in 1994, and RTZ disbanded, though they later released additional albums like Lost in 1998.

The official website for RTZ is barrygoudreau.com/rtz, maintained by Goudreau, offering band history, discography, and updates. The band’s Facebook page, RTZBandOfficial, shares occasional posts about reissues and fan memories. No official Instagram or X accounts exist for RTZ, reflecting their limited social media presence post-1990s. Fan communities are sparse, but the Brad Delp Fan Club on Facebook actively celebrates Delp’s legacy, including his RTZ work, with fans sharing rare photos and concert stories.
