Fans on X have recently buzzed about Ballard's songwriting prowess, with one listener noting the surprising breadth of his work across genres, from Rainbow to Hot Chocolate, which "Breakdown" exemplifies with its punchy riffs and catchy hooks . The album itself was recorded mostly live, capturing a gritty, spontaneous feel, and "Breakdown" stands out as a fan favorite for its driving rhythm and anthemic chorus, perfect for cranking up at THE ZOO.

Digging into Russ Ballard's beginnings, this English rock maestro was born on October 31, 1945, in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire. His musical journey kicked off at just 14 when he wrote a tune recorded by The Shadows for their 1964 album The Sound of The Shadows . By 1961, he was rocking the guitar with Buster Meikle & The Day Breakers alongside his brother Roy and drummer Bob Henrit. Ballard later joined The Roulettes, backing Adam Faith, before stints with Unit 4 + 2 and, most notably, becoming the lead singer and guitarist for Argent. With Argent, he penned the iconic "God Gave Rock and Roll to You," later covered by KISS and Petra, cementing his legacy as a songwriting heavyweight.

Ballard's solo career took flight after leaving Argent in 1974, leading to hits like "On the Rebound" and "Voices," the latter famously featured in Miami Vice. His knack for crafting songs for others—think "Since You Been Gone" for Rainbow or "New York Groove" for Ace Frehley—made him a go-to songwriter in the '70s and '80s . You can keep up with Russ on his official website, Facebook, Instagram, and X.
