The Zoo Crew is spinning the infectious "Bustle and Flow" by The Dead Daisies from their album Holy Ground, and the Zoo Freaks are surely vibing to its raw energy. This track, released as a single on September 25, 2020, carries a powerful message of overcoming fear, as described by frontman Glenn Hughes: “Filled with energy and vigor, ‘Bustle and Flow’ emerged as one of the last tracks to make the cut. It builds and builds and has great movement. It’s about walking through the fear.” The song’s dynamic riff, which guitarist David Lowy called “unusual and unexpected, kinda like a surprise,” blends Aussie, UK, and US rock influences, reflecting the band’s diverse DNA. Hughes also paid homage to the recording location, La Fabrique Studios in France, with the lyric “In the white chateau in the bustle and flow,” tying the song to its creative birthplace.
The creation of "Bustle and Flow" wasn’t without its challenges. Guitarist Doug Aldrich revealed that the song nearly didn’t make the album: “This song started with the riff, which I wrote with Glenn in mind. It went on the back burner, as the chorus just wasn’t working… David, Glenn and I worked on it for hours on a few occasions but it wasn’t coming together.” It was only after manager David Edwards insisted they revisit it that the track came to life, proving to be a fan favorite. The song’s animated video, crafted by Creative Works London using Unreal Engine, adds a spooky, carnival-themed narrative featuring a mysterious woman known as the Raven. Shared on X on October 1, 2020, the video’s dark, fiery tale complements the song’s intense vibe, making it a standout visual experience.
The Dead Daisies began as a musical collective in Sydney, Australia, in 2012, founded by guitarist David Lowy and singer-songwriter Jon Stevens. Lowy, a successful businessman with a passion for rock, had previously played in bands like Mink, while Stevens brought experience from Noiseworks and INXS. The two were reintroduced by music industry figure David Edwards, sparking the formation of the band. Their vision was to create a rotating lineup of top-tier musicians, often described as a “supergroup,” featuring players from iconic bands like Whitesnake, Guns N’ Roses, and Deep Purple. Their self-titled debut album dropped in 2013 via Spitfire Music, setting the stage for a career marked by relentless touring and a string of hard-hitting albums.
The band’s evolution has seen a parade of notable musicians, including John Corabi, Marco Mendoza, and current frontman Glenn Hughes, who joined in 2019. Their music, rooted in classic hard rock with a modern edge, has earned them slots on tours with legends like Aerosmith, KISS, and Judas Priest. Fans can connect with The Dead Daisies through their Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts, where they share updates on tours, releases, and behind-the-scenes moments. For deeper fan engagement, the Glenn Hughes Fan Forum offers a space for devotees to discuss the band and Hughes’ broader career, while The Rockpit frequently covers their releases and interviews, fostering a tight-knit community of rock enthusiasts.
