Dead and Gone

The Dead Daisies

The Zoo Crew is spinning “Dead and Gone” by The Dead Daisies from their 2018 album Burn It Down, and this track has some wild stories behind it. The song’s music video, directed by Tony Valenzuela, was shot in Berlin during the band’s tour and mixes gritty performance footage with bizarre zombie scenes, giving it a chaotic, horror-flick vibe. Released on June 22, 2018, the video tied into the band’s promotion of their album, which was described as a “muscular tour-de-force” with a heavier edge than their previous work. In February 2019, The Dead Daisies launched an online horror series called Welcome to Daisyland, where “Dead and Gone” was featured prominently in the soundtrack. They also released an acoustic “swamp version” of the song to coincide with the series’ first episode, showcasing their versatility. Fans on Facebook went nuts for the track, with some calling its riff “absolute fire” and praising John Corabi’s raw vocals, though a few vinyl collectors noted background noise issues with the album’s pressings.

The Dead Daisies formed in Sydney, Australia, in 2012, sparked by a collaboration between singer-songwriter Jon Stevens (formerly of Noiseworks and INXS) and guitarist David Lowy (ex-Mink). The two were reintroduced by David Edwards, a music industry veteran and former INXS manager, who saw their potential to create something fresh. Lowy, a pilot with a passion for rock, and Stevens, a seasoned vocalist, aimed to channel the raw energy of 1970s hard rock. Their self-titled debut album, recorded in just two weeks at Wishbone Studios in Los Angeles with producer John Fields, dropped in August 2013. The single “Lock N’ Load,” co-written by Slash, gained traction, earning a spot as the 15th best song of 2013 in a Classic Rock magazine poll. Since then, the band has operated as a rotating collective, pulling in heavy hitters like Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, Dio), John Corabi (Mötley Crüe), Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy), and Deen Castronovo (Journey), building a reputation as a supergroup with a hardcore fanbase called the Zoo Freaks’ cousins.

You can keep up with The Dead Daisies on their Facebook, Instagram, and X accounts, where they share tour updates, behind-the-scenes clips, and new releases. Fans, or Zoo Freaks, gather on platforms like the Dead Daisies Fan Club on Facebook, where they swap concert stories, trade merch, and hype up new tracks. The band’s official site, thedeaddaisies.com, is the go-to for tour dates, merch, and news, including their latest album Radiance and singles like “Born to Fly,” inspired by Lowy’s aviation background. Whether you’re a longtime Zoo Freak or just tuning in, The Dead Daisies deliver the kind of classic rock that keeps the airwaves alive.
