I Don't Know You

Thundermother

The song "I Don't Know You" by Thundermother from their 2022 album Black and Gold is a high-energy rock anthem with a cheeky backstory. Guitarist Filippa Nässil described it as a playful take on meeting someone who brings out your worst side, saying, "Everyone has met someone in their lives that brings out the worst in you. This is our cheeky way to tell that story. We hope and believe that this song could be the theme of the summer 2022!" The track’s lyrics, like “I met you, a rainy day / In June, I met you / With a backstage pass / Like a fool / Drinking all our booze / With the crew / But who the fuck are you,” capture a raw, rebellious vibe with an AC/DC-inspired sound. Its music video, released to announce the album, amplifies the band’s gritty, fun-loving attitude, making it a standout for fans craving classic rock with a modern edge.

Critics have noted the song’s infectious energy, with Rock and Blues Muse calling it a “high voltage” single that showcases Thundermother’s knack for catchy rock ‘n’ roll. The track was one of several singles from Black and Gold, alongside “Watch Out” and “Hot Mess,” chosen to cast a wide net for new listeners. Its production, handled by Søren Andersen at Copenhagen’s Medley Studios, gives it a polished yet raw feel, blending 70s rock influences with contemporary flair. Fans on platforms like Facebook have praised its live performances, where the band’s electric stage presence turns it into a crowd-pleasing singalong.

Thundermother began in 2009 in Växjö, Sweden, founded by guitarist Filippa Nässil and Moa Henriksson. The duo started writing songs together, with their track “Rock ‘N’ Roll Disaster” becoming the title of their 2014 debut album. Early years were marked by lineup changes, with Nässil as the constant force, rebuilding the band multiple times. By 2012, after recruiting new members and recording their first promo CD, they gained traction supporting Danko Jones on tour and playing festivals like Sweden Rock and Bråvalla. Their big break came with a record deal from Warner Music Sweden in 2014, cementing their place in the hard rock scene. Despite challenges, including a major lineup overhaul in 2017, Nässil’s persistence kept the band alive, evolving into the all-female powerhouse known today.

The band’s journey hasn’t been without turbulence. In 2023, a significant split saw vocalist Guernica Mancini, drummer Emlee Johansson, and bassist Mona Lindgren leave to form The Gems, prompting Nässil to recruit singer Linnéa Vikström, bassist Majsan Lindberg, and drummer Joan Massing. Through it all, Thundermother’s raw energy and dedication to rock ‘n’ roll have fueled their rise, with tours alongside legends like Scorpions and Whitesnake in 2022. Their music, rooted in AC/DC and Motörhead influences, carries a modern twist that resonates with fans worldwide.
