I Left My License in the Future

Thundermother

The Zoo Crew, those groovy hippie DJs at THE ZOO radio station, are cranking up the vibes with "I Left My License in the Future" by Thundermother, a track from their single release associated with the upcoming album Dirty & Divine. The Zoo Freaks, their wild and loyal listeners, are eating up this high-energy anthem. Released in November 2023, the song marks the first single from the band’s new lineup, and it’s a love letter to rock ‘n’ roll rebels. Sonic Perspectives reported the band describing it as a “hard-hitting no-brainer track aimed at the one in the passenger seat without a driver’s license,” perfect for those who live for the ride but never take the wheel. The track was produced by Danish mastermind Søren Andersen at Medley Studios, capturing the raw, live energy that Thundermother is known for. Fans on X have called it a “banger” and an “instant classic,” with one post raving about its catchy riffs during the band’s secret Stockholm gig in April 2023, where the new lineup debuted.

Behind the song’s creation lies a story of resilience. Thundermother underwent a major lineup change in early 2023, with founding guitarist Filippa Nässil rebuilding the band after parting ways with former members. In an interview with Rockmeeting, Nässil shared that the new single was a bold statement of their comeback, crafted to “give the fans something to scream along to.” The music video, premiered on YouTube, features the band tearing through a futuristic, gritty aesthetic, which Nässil said on Instagram was inspired by their vision of “rock ‘n’ roll with no limits.” The Zoo Freaks are buzzing about a trivia tidbit from RAMzine: the song’s title came from a late-night jam session where singer Linnéa Vikström jokingly riffed on forgetting her ID at a bar, sparking the idea of being “stuck in the future.”

Thundermother’s journey began in 2009, sparked by Filippa Nässil in Skåne, Sweden. As detailed on Last.fm, Nässil, a passionate guitarist, started the band while studying in Växjö before moving to Stockholm to chase her rock ‘n’ roll dream. The band’s raw, AC/DC-inspired sound caught fire at Gothenburg Rockfest in 2012, where their explosive debut performance turned heads. By 2017, they were touring with legends like the Scorpions and KISS, as noted on AFM Records’ site. Thundermother built a reputation as one of the hardest-working bands, playing over 2,000 shows worldwide, including three Wacken Open Air gigs. Their motto, “We fight for Rock’N’Roll,” reflects their relentless drive, earning them a Gaffa Award for Sweden’s best Hard Rock act in 2020.
