AMMA

Zoo Freaks, the Crew just dropped the needle on "AMMA," the title cut from Trenton Page's album of the same name. This one comes from a Cleburne kid who did not grow up in a studio. He grew up on a golf course, and the whole guitar thing started because the pandemic shut the course down. He told Voyage Michigan he was bored, picked up a guitar just to have something to do, and found out his hands already knew more than he did. After lockdown his folks got him into the Cleburne Guitar Dojo with Blake Stevenson, and he has stayed with that teacher ever since. He was twelve when the lessons started.

The interesting part is how fast it turned serious. At fifteen he made the Dallas International Guitar Festival's Ten Under Twenty and did not win. Instead of sulking he went home, started a band, and came back. On May 4, 2025, at Dallas Market Hall, he took first in that same contest with Corbin Campbell on bass and Ken Lemke on drums. The Cleburne Times-Review called it what it was: a boredom cure that turned into a career. Folks who filmed the set heard the room react like they had just watched a grown player, not a teenager. His sister posted that she was proud and that the win was deserved. Another listener wrote that the guitar in his hands used to be theirs, and told him to keep going. That is the kind of Texas handshake this music still runs on.

Page has Icelandic family roots, and he named the band the Helm of Awe after that side of the bloodline. The Helm of Awe is an old protective mark, and the group has been earning the name the hard way, out on the regional circuit. You will find them tearing into Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan tunes at places like Whiskey Woods in Glen Rose and Cheba Hut in Mansfield, sometimes sharing the bill with Metal Shop, sometimes rehearsing with players out of Rockstars of Tomorrow. His own site puts it plain: shaped by blues, defined by growth. In 2025 he also took Best Under 18 Shredder at the Las Vegas Guitar Show. He finished high school a year and a half early, in October 2025, and has been working the first EP while lining up a trip to play the Reykjavik Blues Festival. When somebody asked what he would tell a kid just starting, he said keep working, learn everything you can, and push past what you think you can do.
