F**k You

Veins Of Jenna

The Zoo Crew, those groovy hippie DJs at THE ZOO radio station, are dropping the needle on "F**k You" by Vains Of Jenna from their 2011 album Reverse Tripped, firing up the Zoo Freaks with its raw, sleazy energy. This track, a cover of CeeLo Green's soulful hit, got a gritty, hard-rock makeover by the Swedish quartet, blending their glam-metal roots with a punchy, rebellious vibe. Trivia on this one is sparse, as Vains Of Jenna didn’t spill much about it in interviews, but the song’s inclusion on Reverse Tripped, an album entirely of covers, stirred some buzz. Fans on platforms like Rate Your Music were split—some dug the band’s bold spin, with one reviewer calling it “clean and crystal clear” compared to the original, while others, hating covers, dubbed the album “pure garbage” despite praising the music’s quality. The band’s choice to kick off the album with “F**k You” was no accident; it set the tone for their unapologetic, party-ready sound, perfect for a rowdy night with “plenty of Old Milwaukee,” as one Amazon reviewer quipped.

Not much surfaces from Vains Of Jenna’s socials about “F**k You” specifically, as their online presence faded after their 2012 breakup. Back in 2011, their Facebook page hyped Reverse Tripped with posts about its release, teasing the “VoJ spin” on classics and modern hits. One archived post from their now-defunct MySpace mentioned the album’s 54-city North American tour, where “F**k You” likely got the crowds roaring. The track also features Jesse Forte’s vocals, a big deal since he’d just joined the band in 2010 after frontman Lizzy DeVine split. Forte, relatively unknown then, had to prove himself to diehard fans, and “F**k You” was his bold intro. A Sleaze Roxx review felt bad for Forte, noting the cover-heavy album was a tough sell for loyalists expecting original sleaze rock, but his performance still packed a punch.

Vains Of Jenna kicked off in 2005 in Falkenberg, Sweden, when four young guys—Lizzy DeVine (vocals/guitar), Nicki Kin (lead guitar), JP White (bass), and Jacki Stone (drums)—decided to channel their love for Guns N’ Roses and Mötley Crüe into a sleazy, glam-metal outfit. Barely out of their teens, they recorded a four-song demo with tracks like “Heartbreak Suicide,” which became their breakout hit. Their big break came when they snagged a spot at Crüe Fest Hollywood in January 2005, catching the eye of Stevie Rachelle, Tuff singer and Metal Sludge owner. Rachelle’s support got them noticed, and by summer 2006, they’d relocated to Hollywood, CA. Skateboarder and MTV star Bam Margera signed them to his Filthy Note label after seeing them at the Whisky a Go Go, reissuing their debut Lit Up/Let Down that fall. The album sold around 15,000 copies, and their wild live shows—200 in 2007 alone, including tours with Poison and Ratt—cemented their rep as a high-energy act.

The band’s Hollywood days were chaotic, filled with TV appearances on MTV’s Jackass Number Two and TLC’s LA Ink with fan Kat Von D. They toured relentlessly, hitting the US, Europe, and even South America, while dropping their second album, The Art of Telling Lies, in 2009. But by 2010, DeVine’s exit shook things up, and Jesse Forte stepped in. Reverse Tripped was their last hurrah before they “amicably” disbanded in January 2012, as announced on Facebook. Most members returned to Sweden, closing a wild chapter. Their official website is long gone, but you can check their Facebook for old posts or follow lingering fan chatter on Instagram under #vainsofjenna. No active X account exists, and their MySpace is defunct. Fan sites are scarce, but Metal Sludge still hosts throwback gossip, and Facebook groups like “Sleaze Rock Fans” occasionally mention them. The Zoo Freaks are keeping that Vains Of Jenna spirit alive, spinning “F**k You” for the ages.
